The Peaceful One
I’m anxious to find, I’m anxious to see
If your love is so blind, what would you do with me
If I change my tune, if I yell at you
If I come home late can I talk to you?
Let’s just put it all out on the table first
We can look at both sides and find out which is worse-
The gracious one-
He takes everything in stride
The horrid one-
He never tells you if he lies
The happy one-
He shows you so many good times
The introspective one-
On a good day he cries
The peaceful one-
The one you’ll love your whole life
So the summer regrets that you felt so much heat
And you’re thinking too much that this tale’s got you beat
‘Cuz you ain’t thought it through and you’re gonna lose touch
and you know that she never really asked for much
But the pain-it shows up in the strangest places
And all this denial just causes displacement
For all of your lumps, yeah you took ‘em so well
Chalk another one up for the devil in hell…

Share It
She’s saying prayers before her bedtime
Her grandpa was a medicine man
She’s studied all such beautiful topics;
Massage, botany, the origins of man
She writes her poems for pleasure
Says it’s most cathartic
Some people write for a living-
She just does it to live
And I’ll bet she’s sleeping alone tonight
And I’d bet she’s fast asleep
She don’t need some stranger’s affection
Yeah she’s just too good to keep
And thought they try to keep her
She stands on her own two feet
They try to blow her over
But the wind just catches her wings
And makes her fly-
Right away
Until the next guy
Tries to tame her
Put her on the wall and frame her
But that’s not how it works
How does it feel?
How does it feel-to be so independent
Share it, share it-share it with the world

Penance
When you find your true lover
I hope you realize
When you find your true lover
I hope we’re synchronized
We’re all dividing our druthers
Somewhere deep in our minds
It’s like we did with our brothers
Got separate paths to find
It ain’t no prison cell-
My little home
Lock myself up in it, in it, in it
There ain’t no shackles
There ain’t no chains
All the freaks hangin’ out tonight would just
Mess with my brain
Your from a town of fakers
No one owns their right mind
All they own is anger
Ain’t no friends of mine
There’s no on in my chat room
They kicked me off the team
Didn’t have the eye of the tiger, no sir
I’ll take you to the airport
I’ll drive you to the show
I just can’t go back again
Knowing what I know

Reading Katie’s Diary
It was so important to her
She had to write it down
Stuff about all her problems
Stuff ‘bout living underground
And now that she’s away you just read it
And you think that it’s okay
She’s just a fragile little lamb-child
Keeping the wolves at bay
Need you know more?
What’d you think she was a whore?
Well, now that you know the truth
That oughta even the score
She’ll never lose you.
She’ll never love you-oh no…no
Reading Katie’s diary
Shame on you
Hope you found what you wanted
You just couldn’t ask, now could you?
Communication is one thing
Believing is another
Trust is really the best thing
That you can receive from a lover
She broke your heart
No, she ain’t no man-eater
No, you never were quite right
Now you know for sure
She’ll never love you.

Secrets
I’m still learning things about girls and boys
Who’d be deceived if you had a choice?
And if you’re the deceiver and she’s the believer
Which is the mask
Which is your face?
An old friend of mine
Has been replaced
By some crazy fool playing games with love
Insisting that it’s harmless
And when I see you now it’s like talking to a wall
You’re lookin’ over your shoulder like someone’s coming after you
Looking for spies, all them secrets and lies
And all the stories that’ll never be told
Ah, take off the mask
And show me your face
An old friend of mine
Has been replaced
By some crazy fool playing games with love
Insisting that it’s harmless
It ain’t harmless
Because you’re living in the dark
Nobody knows anything about you no more
You don’t let anybody in no more
You shut the whole gang out
You the the ol’ gang out
You shut the whole gang out
You shut the ol’ gang out
You ain’t running form the law
You got no hellhounds on your trail
You never been arrested and you never been to jail
Just hiding from that woman, even though she can’t tell
You’re just mystical enough to keep her under your spell

Fireflies and Bugs
Go to a movie and they’ll show you a show
Tonight we’re out walking in the day’s afterglow
Now for a show-show you a show
Finding a trail that leads to paradise
Moon and the stars will be our only light
But what’s in the grass-what’s in the grass?
Fireflies
Fireflies and bugs
Could you sleep anywhere on a night this calm
Could sleep in the rushes and you’d wake up warm
Ladybug place, sun in your face
Moon and the stars still shining up in the sky
Over the rushes see the fireflies
Lighting our way, lighting our way back home
Fireflies
Fireflies and bugs..
Fireflies
Not in a picture could I show you this show
Moon and the meadow and the firefly glow
Firefly glow-see but can’t show
Fireflies
Fireflies and bugs
Fireflies
Fireflies and bugs

Out In The Sticks
I really love the sound coming in through the window
It’s that lonesome ol’ train whistle from about a mile away
And I used to hear it when I went to sleep
And I hear it in my dreams
With the clanging of the empty boxcars
On their way back south
And as I sit and listen to the sound off in the distance
I’m getting’ to reminiscing-such a long long way from home
And I just can’t find the way back there
Now I heard there ain’t even tracks there
The old homestead’s gone back to nature
The brambles have taken over
Where it all started for me
There’s still a barrel up in a tree
There’s more signs if you dig way down deep
You’ll find remnants of a family
And where there once was a home
Is dead and buried or disowned
Scattered like ashes from an airplane
Where the deer and wolfpacks roam
So desolate and quiet
But still there ain’t no denying
A place that does exist
Way out in the sticks

Center Stage

Two lovebirds
She was a shiny beast
He loved her
She was in charge
When they took center stage
It was magnified
All their troubles
He’d try to act dignified
But she ruled him
And he had a weakness for legs
As long as hers-and so pretty
So he got in
And he took the back seat
And she drove him
All night through the Memphis heat
On center stage
It was magnified
He had a hard time
Obeying her always
So he took
To finding more love on the side
Little secrets
A secret-that’s not a lie
‘Til he ran out
Of excuses for getting home
At 5 a.m.
She’d be sleeping
There were questions
But she didn’t wanna know
‘Cuz she loved him
But she was doing the same thing

100 Years After
Fountains to wash in
Fresh air to walk in
Everyone’s talkin’
But no on their cell phones!
We’re face to face here
Whoever you want near
Just think of them softly
Suddenly they appear!
100 years after you die
Back on your planet
Just as you planned it
The spaceship has landed
They’re ready for you now!
But your soul’s still healing
And you love the feeling
Of floating on sound
But your work is not finished!
Wait for 100 years
Wait for 100 years more please
Wait for 100 years..
Out in the cosmos
You’ve no friends and no foes
Billions of old souls
And the lost ones can’t find you
You can find them though
Looking through the windows
You call them over
But they can’t conceive you
‘Til 200 years after you die..

Great Escape
It’s okay to unwind
Let your thoughts drift away
You ain’t never gonna change
Anything that went down today
Not right now
Take a time out
Think of her
Don’t think of her
At the usual pace
In the usual places
Just doing the usual thing
I’m glad you’re trying to sing
La la la
La la de da de da
Always have to share what’s inside
Your peace of mind’s on the outside
There’s nothing left for you
But you’re thinking that now is the right time
For the great escape
I remember the day you were born
Everyone was so filled with hope
But look at you now
All strung out on dope
Gonna tell you what
I think you oughta do
It’s the middle of summer
Get outta here

Catacombs

You know the nobles used to have parties in the Catacombs
Deep down in the bowels of the earth
Where they once mined the stones that built old Paris
They replaced with skeletons from the dirt
And I wonder if they washed off them bones
Yeah, I wonder if they had anything left on ‘em
How would you like to have that job?
Grave digging, separating, and stacking
Gee, I think I’ll make a design out of these skulls today
Les Innocents, remember them well
Yeah, that’s what I did today baby-
I’ll make love to you but I can’t wash off the smell
And poor old Philibert Aspairt
Poor bastard starved to death yeah, ‘cuz he got lost
After eleven years they finally found his body
Somewhere deep down in some tunnel in the quarry
And I don’t’ think he intended to go down that way
He just couldn’t find his way back
Must have been terrifying to lose any sight
Trying to find your way back to where all the bones are stacked
So this ossuary that’s now here for the tourists
Down where the bones are stacked so dense
It’s hard for me to make any connections
Unless you speak a little French

That Attitude’ll Get You Nowhere
I heard you talking
You were saying how everyone in your whole scene is lame
Well, pick the culprit, go and tell it to his face
I guess it’s safe, it’s safe, it’s safe to say that you can’t enjoy nothing
You may as well go home
Why don’t you just sit back and let the evening roll
‘Cuz man, it’s gonna roll all night
Your attitude won’t get you nowhere
Won’t get you nowhere in this place
You don’t have to be like this
Why don’t you put on a happy face
And I know there’s just too many choices out there
We’re all fighting for your entertainment dollar
And it’s too bad, tough shit, you can’t ditch in a cab,
And your girlfriend’s taking you home
Why don’t you just sit back and let the music roll
‘Cuz man, it’s gonna roll all night
That attitude’ll get you nowhere
Get you nowhere in this place
It’s my town, I get around it
And I live in a friendly place
